Apple has released the next iteration of their Mobile software, iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch yesterday at the WWDC conference. The new version comes with more than 200 new features, including a new notification system, Newsstand, which is an iBook like but for magazines and Newspaper subscription, Twitter integration, Safari Reader and Reading List, Reminders, Camera and Image editing Capabilities, Mail updates, iOS-wide built-in dictionary, PC-free for syncing, updating wirelessly, Delta OTA software updates, and iMessage.
MuscleNerd one of key members of the Dev Team has confirmed via his twitter the possibility of jailbreak future on iOS 5, and no matter the fact that it will be a tethered solution at least initially, but the Jailbreak community will love to have their hands on it.
iPad 2 is the only iDevice left with no jailbreak available yet and as the Jailbreak community seem rushed to figure out a rigid exploit, one of them, Stefan Esser a.k.a @i0n1c, a well known security guy among the jailbreak team, has recently thrown the word “Elevat0r†and began to tease a series of tweets since a month ago and apparently this is an iPad 2 jailbreak exploit. Stefan Esser has successfully found an exploit in iOS 4.3.1 which once again used in subsequent iOS 4.3.2 and iOS 4.3.3.
To tie the loosing ends, a new website elevat0r.com has surfaced and, interestingly, it says:
“Is an elevator arriving soon?
This website is dedicated to all those iPad 2 that are waiting for an elevator…
If your iPad 2 is waiting for an elevator don’t hesitate to share a photo of it with the rest of the world.â€
And for more ambiguity they put another statement at the bottom which read:
“This website is not about an iPad 2 jailbreak, it is about photos of waiting iPad 2 only.â€
The website is full of iPad 2 images showing a real elevator and it seems Stefan is waiting for 1000 images to be submitted before he reveals the expected jailbreak. He tweeted:
Wonder how many days it will take to get 1000 submissions for http://elevat0r.com
Do you think that Elevat0r is the upcoming iPad 2 jailbreak/exploit?
Developer Peter Hajas has done amazing notification tweak for iOS devicesMobileNotifier available in Cydia . The new tweak has soon evolved into a viable notification alternative.
Recently, out of nowhere, Peter blogged about his departure from MobileNotifier, He said he was taking a break from MobileNotifier effective immediately and couldn’t mention why he was leaving:
I’m taking a break from MobileNotifier and Widge for a while. I have other opportunities and priorities currently. I won’t be able to do much (if any) work on the projects, and I won’t have time to respond to many Tweets or emails. The project is in capable hands, with Kyle Adams, Tim Novinger and others (like Marc Easen) keeping things going. This is definitely not goodbye.
I can’t say why, but it’s worth it. Trust me. If you look around hard enough, you’ll probably figure it out.
I hope you guys understand, and I look forward to bringing you more awesome, great, free open source software in the future. Stay tuned for some amazing things!
If you absolutely must get in touch with me, send me an email. Until then, stay hungry and stay foolish.
Now, the interesting part of Peter’s post was the cryptic line about why he can’t say why he’s stopping work on MobileNotifier, but if we look around we’ll figure it out. Now, here’s the fun part.
Steve Jobs’ speech at Standford, where he refers to the farewell message in the last edition of Whole Earth Catalogue, that read:
Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.
By watching the historic video above, around 13:50, this apparently leaves us to think that he was hired by Apple actually.
Later, the guys at RedmondPie was able to dig up an old deleted tweet by Hajas, that stated he was “off to work in CA at a ‘fruit’ companyâ€.
@brittaahh I’m glad you like it! I’ll see what I can do 🙂 I will be back for a few weeks, then I’m off to work in CA at a “fruit†company.
More evidence kept rolling up as finally, Peter’s Facebook had been updated to show his current employment status as an “intern†with Apple Inc. as noticed byCrunchGear
Peter’s hard work does pay off and got him noticed by Apple, well done.

Chronic Dev Team has issued an update regarding 4.3.3 Jailbreak status. The upcoming Greenpois0n RC6.2 will be capable of jailbreakingiOS 4.3.3 on iPhone iPad and iPod Touch. iPad 2 jailbreak status is not quite clear as they are no details and no ETA yet. Joshua Hill aka posixninja is currently working on it:
As I’m sure many people have heard, Josh (posixninja) has recently been quoted saying the iPad 2 jailbreak is coming in “weeksâ€, I know I have been very publicly abrasive and non-commital on giving any kind of timeframe or comment on this matter, but at the behest of Josh (in conjunction with his need for a swift kick to the ass for motivation) we’re ALL going to hold him to that!!! I’m not going to get into extensive detail about this, but what I will say one of the missing puzzle pieces may have reared its head and cast a glance in our direction… take from that what you will.
Greenpois0n RC 6.2 is coming soon to jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 untethered for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
In the past I have also said that 4.3.x support was on hold for greenpois0n to focus on iPad 2 jailbreak exclusively, our course has slightly changed (primary focus has never shifted from iPad 2 since it was released) it has now become possible to easily update and execute a workflow to enable RC6.2 (tentatively speaking… mmm #dirt) to be released “soonâ€â€¦
Greenpois0n RC 6.2 will be a simpler one to use comparatively. Still you can jailbreak iOS 4.3.x with the already present tools which you can find below.
