• iPhone 5 with Larger 4-inch Screen & Metal Chassis On Track For Summer Release

    With the iPad 2 set to launch internationally on Friday, it’s time to set our eyes upon the next big thing, the iPhone 5′s debut in June or July. China Times is reporting that the iPhone 5 has entered trial production and is scheduled for wide scale release in Q3 of this year, which aligns with the iPhone’s traditional late June / early July release date.

    As for what the iPhone 5 will look like, the latest report supports rumors suggesting that the iPhone 5 will mostly be similar to an iPhone 4s, with the major differences being a slightly larger 4-inch touchscreen in the same form factor (accomplished by having less room between the side bezels of the device), as well as a metal chassis (Liquid Metal?) to make the device lighter and improve antenna sensitivity.

    Coupled with an A5 processor and a new aluminum back plate, it sounds like the iPhone 5 — while not quite the evolutionary leap that the iPhone 4 was — will be a bit more than just the iPhone 4s many people anticipated this generation.

  • iPad 2: Wife Says No, but Apple Says Yes

    There are many reasons one would give when returning an iPad 2. However, telling Apple it was because of a spouse is probably not an answer often heard. Until now.

    According to MacRumors, Apple is paying close attention to all iPad 2 returns during the first few weeks to make sure there are no major production defects. This policy has led to an amusing story that we thought was entertaining enough to share.

    The story comes by way of an individual close to Apple:

    [Apple’s] focus this week has been to troubleshoot all the iPad 2s that customers are returning to the stores. One iPad came back with a post it note on it that said “Wife said no.” It was escalated as something funny, and two of the VPs got wind of it. They sent the guy an iPad 2 with a note on it that said “Apple said yes.“

    We’re guessing a free iPad satisfied any objection the customer’s wife might have had.

    Following to what we posted earlier, a new claim suggested that an expected MobileMe revamp will be launching ahead of WWDC, sometime next month (April). iLounge claims The new MobileMe is said to be free is may be a major departure from the current version of MobileMe:

    In addition, the source was told that Apple will be supporting the existing version of MobileMe for the next year, suggesting that the new version will be quite different from the existing service; the extra year of support would likely cover those who recently paid for a full year of MobileMe, prior to Apple removing any method through which a user could pay for the service.

    Apple is expected to hold an iOS 5 event sometime in April and this would be a perfect time to also unveil the new MobileMe. The new service is said to be more cloud-based with a “locker” that stores your media. The service will potentially even connect to your iTunes library to provide streaming to iOS devices from the cloud.

  • Apple to Have an Immediate Availability of iPad 2 Next Week

    According to sources close to AppleInsider, Apple is going to surprise everyone next week with “near immediate” availability of the next-generation iPad to public.

    According to people familiar with the matter, Apple is preparing several of its operating segments to perform functions during the second half of next week that are representative of nothing short of a large scale, consumer-oriented product roll out (not just an announcement). And with official invitations to next Wednesday’s press briefing clearly indicating a focus on iPad, these people believe at least one version of the refreshed device will be in transit to retail outlets during that briefing.

    Apple is going to announce iPad 2 in a media event, which is going to be held on Wednesday, March 2nd, at the famous Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

    iPad 2 is expected to feature at least one camera for FaceTime video calls, Dual Core CPU and GPU, and will be thinner in size than its predecessor.
