• iPhone 5 Will Have A Metal Back, And A Larger Screen

Apple’s fifth generation iPhone will purportedly feature a metal back, and a larger screen. The news comes from a Foxconn source, who has apparently seen the iPhone 5 at one of the company’s plants.

According to the source, the iPhone 5 will look “fairly similar” to the iPhone 4, despite two changes: A flat, metal back, and a bigger screen. Previously, Digitimes had reported that Apple’s fifth generation iPhone would feature a four inch screen. This statement was supported by a purported iPhone 5 design image, which showed an iPhone handset with an edge to edge screen (made possible by a thinner bezel).

A four inch iPhone would mean Apple could compete with Google Android handsets in the four to seven inch smart phone market. The iPhone 4 currently boasts a 3.5 inch display.

Apple fans would most likely appreciate an iPhone handset with a four inch screen. However, I’m more excited about the iPhone 5′s purported metal back – after dropping and smashing my iPhone 4 a couple of weeks ago, I’m really hoping the iPhone 5 is a more durable handset.

Apple’s fifth generation iPhone will very likely be announced on stage at WWDC ’11, which should take place in June. Until then, let us know what kind of iPhone 5 you’re hoping for in the comments below.

  • Google Launches New Search App for iPhone

With an official post on the company’s blog, Google announced a major new version of Google Mobile app for iPhone with a completely new look, new features and a new name: Google Search for iPhone. The app packs all the functionalities from the previous version in a new UI, easily accessible for everyone and built on top of iOS 4′s multitasking and fast app switching capabilities.

Second, we’ve made it easier to pick up searching where you left off. If you leave the app and come back later, you’ll be able either to start a new search right away (just tap in the search box to type, hit the microphone button to do a voice search or tap on the camera icon to use Google Goggles) or get back to exactly where you were by tapping on the lower part of the page.

Finally, there are a number of improvements we’ve made to everything else you love in the app, including Google Goggles, Voice Search, Search with My Location, Gmail unread counts and more.

Google Search for iPhone is a free download in the App Store. Check out the promo video below.

  • iPhone 5 to Hold two SIM Cards for Dual Phone Lines?

According to iDealsChina the iPhone 5 will not only hold one, but two SIM cards to support dual phone lines. This sounds very odd and I think iDealsChina could have misinterpreted the information from their source.

The iPhone 5 is rumored to include a Qualcomm just like the Verizon iPhone that allows for both GSM and CDMA connections in the same phone. Perhaps this is what they mean by dual SIM-cards?

iDealsChina, a Chinese parts reseller, is the site that brought us iPhone 5 design images. The site has a mixed track record of correct & incorrect rumors. They incorrectly reported that an iPhone nano would launch in 2008.
