WORLD’S LARGEST OLED TV FROM LG OFFERS MORE REALISTIC COLORS, BRIGHTER PICTURE, FASTER SPEED

LG Unveils Much Anticipated 55-inch OLED TV for First Time at CES 2012

SEOUL, Jan. 2, 2012 – LG Electronics (LG) will present the future of TV technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas with the unveiling of the world’s largest OLED TV with a display size of 55 inches. By incorporating the company’s 4-Color Pixels and Color Refiner features with LG Display’s advanced OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panels, LG OLED TV generates the most natural colors of any TV set at a much lower price point than could have been achieved using the standard manufacturing process.

“Working closely with LG Display, we have a product which not only delivers on all the advantages of OLED over LCD but at a significantly lower cost than what could be achieved using existing OLED manufacturing technologies,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “OLED is clearly the future of home TV entertainment and LG is very focused on making this exciting technology as easy as possible for consumers to embrace.”

What sets LG’s TV picture apart from other OLED TVs is 4-Color Pixels and Color Refiner which work together to generate natural and accurate colors that are sharp and consistent. The 4-Color Pixels feature allows for more accurate color depiction by using a set of four colors (red, green blue and white) in comparison to the RGB setup used by other OLED TV manufacturers. Color Refiner ensures consistency in colors from a wider viewing angle via an LG algorithm which improves and refines hues and tones. This is in contrast to other OLED TVs which often exhibit drastic changes in hues from different viewing angles and abnormal color gamut.

Boasting an infinite contrast ratio, LG’s OLED TV exhibits vivid colors and the smallest details regardless of the overall luminance of the on-screen image. In turn, colors and details throughout an entire image are preserved with utmost clarity and sharpness, even when displaying scenes with dark lighting. Such color capabilities are technically impossible with LED and LCD display panels. And at 1,000 times faster than LED/LCD displays, LG’s OLED TV shows crystal clear motion without any blurring or bleeding.

And LG’s OLED TV is as aesthetically pleasing as it is technologically sophisticated. LG’s Slim and Narrow Bezel design gives the TV a sleek, minimal look and at only 4 mm thin and a mere 7.5 kg, LG’s OLED TV practically blends into the wall.

  • Apple Testing 2048×1536 Pixels Displays from Samsung and LG for the iPad 3

Apple, reportedly, has begun quality testing LCD displays from Samsung and LG for the iPad 3, according to a report in the Korea Times. A source claims that the LCD displays currently being tested are QXGA with a resolution of 2048 x 1536.

The resolution is double that in the current iPad display and taking the 9.7″ display would result in roughly 260 DPI. Although this is not above the supposed 300 DPI to be fit in Retina Display by taking into account that the iPad is normally held further away from the eyes than iPhone.

Apple’s upcoming iPad 3 will feature an improved display to support quad extended graphics (QXGA), a display resolution of 2048×1536 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio to provide full high definition (HD) viewing experience, said a source close to the talks

A new tidbit in the same manner comes from Daring Fireball‘s John Gruber who makes note of his speculations and referring to the large files found earlier which suggest a bigger resolution needed for a denser screens. He mentions that the iPad 3 will have a 2048×1536 Retina Display.

These magazines and newspapers that render each “page” as a static 1024 × 768 image are going to look like utter ass on the iPad 3’s 2048 × 1536 retina display.

Previous speculations pointed out the new iPad 3 (or iPad HD) will debut this fall.

  • iPhone 5 in September With A5 Chip, 8MP Camera. iPad 3 to Get Higher Resolution Display

A new report by Bloomberg has backed up rumors from the past few months and says that Apple’s upcoming fifth-generation iPhone will make its debut in September and will boast a stronger chip for processing data and a more advanced camera and will closely resmeble the current iPhone 4 unlike many reports that hinted about a teardrop shaped build, The device will include the A5 processor, the more powerful chip that Apple added to the iPad 2 earlier this year, along with an 8-megapixel camera, up from the 5-megapixel model in the iPhone 4.

Apple is also said to be testing a new version of the iPad that has a higher resolution screen, similar to the one now used in the iPhone 4. The screen resolution on Apple’s new iPad would be about one-third higher than that of the iPad 2 and will sport a more responsive touchscreen.

The new iPhone will also come preloaded with iOS 5, which features Notification Center, new camera features, Twitter integration, iCloud support, an updated mail application, a location-based reminders application, iMessages, and much more. iOS 5 previewed earlier in WWDC and will be a unified OS for all Apple mobile devices:

The new phone will run the iOS 5 operating system Apple previewed at a developer’s conference earlier this month. Codenamed “Telluride,” it will feature already-announced features such as improved messaging and photo-sharing, one person said. It’s also designed to run on all of Apple’s mobile devices, this person said. Until late last year, iPads, iPhones and iPod touches used slightly different versions of iOS.

And the idea of a cheaper iPhone version seems to be valid after all:

Apple is also working to finish a cheaper version of the iPhone aimed at attracting customers in developing countries, the people said. This device would use chips and displays of similar quality to today’s iPhone 4, the people said. Apple’s work on a smaller, lower-priced version of the device was discussed by people familiar with the matter in February.

The next generation iPhone is expected to pack a new cellular chip from the Qualcomm that can support both GSM and CDMA networks.

  • Toshiba is Working on 4-inch 367dpi Retina Display For Apple?

Toshiba is going to exhibit next-generation displays and technologies at the 2011 Society for Information Display International Symposium, May 17 to 19, 2011. The interesting news is that Toshiba is going to show off a 4″ High density displays for mobile devices. here what they had to say:

Displays for Mobile Phones and Portable Electronics: The mobile section of the booth will feature high-resolution LTPS displays, up to 367ppi (pixels per inch) resolution density, in sizes ranging from 3.3-inch to 4.0-inch with resolution formats ranging from Wide VGA (480 x 864) to HD (720 x 1280). The displays are just a few representative examples of TMD’s broad line of thin and light displays for mobile smartphones and other portable electronic devices.

A lot of previous rumors speculated a new iPhone with edge-to-edge 4-inch display panels. Back in December a news came from Reuters reporting that Apple & Toshiba said to be working with on future displays which apparently ditching Samsung away:

Toshiba Corp will spend about 100 billion yen ($1.19 billion) to build a factory for making small LCD panels, mainly to supply to Apple Inc’s iPhones, the Nikkei business daily said. The company’s wholly owned unit, Toshiba Mobile Display Co, will construct the facility in Ishikawa prefecture and the plant will churn out low-temperature polysilicon LCD panels, which allow for high-resolution images, the paper said.Work on the plant will start by early next year, with the production due to begin in the second half of 2011, Nikkei said.Toshiba Mobile Display already makes low-temperature polysilicon LCD panels at a facility in the prefecture and its monthly production capacity of 8.55 million units is projected to more than double with the new factory, the daily said.  Apple will invest in a portion of the investment for the factory, the Nikkei said.

Are we waiting for a 4-inch iPhone this fall?
