• New MacBook Pro to Have an All New Case Design?

MacRumors has heard reliable confirmation that the next revision of Apple’s MacBook Pro line will utilize a new case design for the first time in several years.

The possibility of a new case design was first revealed by iLounge in February just before the early 2011 MacBook Pros were released. iLounge described the most recent updates as the last “incremental” update before an all-new MacBook Pro design.

Next year is the year when Apple will introduce an all new design for the MacBook Pro product family, which is already under development at Quanta in Taiwan. It’s being described as a big, “milestone” release for the Pro family, as compared with the speed bump features that will be introduced in [February’s] models.

The last time the MacBook Pro was redesigned was in late 2008 with the introduction of the unibody MacBook Pro. The unibody MacBook Pro design which remains in use today offers an iMac-inspired design with a black-bezel and aluminum unibody casing. Unfortunately, we have no specifics on what the next MacBook Pro might look like, though many have previously speculated that Apple will take cues from the MacBook Air line.

  • Jony Ive Not Leaving Apple for UK

In an interesting profile of Apple’s VP of Industrial Design, Jony Ive, the UK Daily Mail pops this little tidbit toward the end:

Speculation that Ive would leave Apple to return to the UK is also false, says a former colleague: ‘I’m not sure there is any truth he wants to come back. My last conversations with him were that he was planning to sell his house in the UK.’

  • iPhone 5 Will Have A Metal Back, And A Larger Screen

Apple’s fifth generation iPhone will purportedly feature a metal back, and a larger screen. The news comes from a Foxconn source, who has apparently seen the iPhone 5 at one of the company’s plants.

According to the source, the iPhone 5 will look “fairly similar” to the iPhone 4, despite two changes: A flat, metal back, and a bigger screen. Previously, Digitimes had reported that Apple’s fifth generation iPhone would feature a four inch screen. This statement was supported by a purported iPhone 5 design image, which showed an iPhone handset with an edge to edge screen (made possible by a thinner bezel).

A four inch iPhone would mean Apple could compete with Google Android handsets in the four to seven inch smart phone market. The iPhone 4 currently boasts a 3.5 inch display.

Apple fans would most likely appreciate an iPhone handset with a four inch screen. However, I’m more excited about the iPhone 5′s purported metal back – after dropping and smashing my iPhone 4 a couple of weeks ago, I’m really hoping the iPhone 5 is a more durable handset.

Apple’s fifth generation iPhone will very likely be announced on stage at WWDC ’11, which should take place in June. Until then, let us know what kind of iPhone 5 you’re hoping for in the comments below.

  • iPhone 5 to Hold two SIM Cards for Dual Phone Lines?

According to iDealsChina the iPhone 5 will not only hold one, but two SIM cards to support dual phone lines. This sounds very odd and I think iDealsChina could have misinterpreted the information from their source.

The iPhone 5 is rumored to include a Qualcomm just like the Verizon iPhone that allows for both GSM and CDMA connections in the same phone. Perhaps this is what they mean by dual SIM-cards?

iDealsChina, a Chinese parts reseller, is the site that brought us iPhone 5 design images. The site has a mixed track record of correct & incorrect rumors. They incorrectly reported that an iPhone nano would launch in 2008.
