The Last of Us: First E3 Gameplay Video Released

Sony has released an E3 gameplay video for Naughty Dog‘s stunner, The Last of Us. It’s a gorgeous game featuring a post-apocalypse setting done with colors and authenticity. It also involves extreme violence. In the demo, main character Joel sneaks around before basically killing everyone who gets in his way.

Joel and Ellie are attempting to get to the bridge and out of the city. They are tourists in an area that’s controlled by hunters. They are hunted and yet they too are hunters. Everyone is willing to do whatever it takes to survive. What you’ll see here is something that we’re calling Balance of Power AI. Enemies will react realistically to whatever situation your combat style forces them into. Playing as Joel, Ellie’s help and whatever weapons you can scavenge are your best shot at progressing in this brutal, violent world.

    Official Synopsis:

The Last of Us is genre-defining experience blending survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Cities are abandoned and being reclaimed by nature. Remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a young teenage girl who’s braver and wiser beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have released the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming reboot, Tomb Raider, the game is set to provide no correlation to the entirety of the previous entries in the series franchise. Watch the brutal trailer below and tell us what you think:

    Official Synopsis:

A young Lara Croft has already proven herself to be a survivor, but one on the cusp of an extraordinary adventure. Caught in the clutches of an enigmatic island, Lara is captured by hostile natives and faced with a traumatic and character-defining decision. On this island, forces beyond her control leave Lara little alternative but to ruthlessly fight for her life.

New details on Tomb Raider revealed in the latest issue of Game Informer.

    – Don’t expect much of the old linear platforming formula. “We’re now giving the player the opportunity to go into a space and choose their own path. Where we take you across the ledge of the B-52 bomber, that’s a tutorial. Once you move away from the plane, everything is basically open, dynamic traversal where the player has the freedom to roam around a jump from location to location with ease…”

    – You’ll be able to air steer, direction control, speed her up/down during jumps

    – The game has an XP system. You’ll be able to use this for upgrading Lara’s abilities. You’ll also have to scavenge for materials to upgrade Lara’s equipment

    – The base camps will allow you to upgrade Lara’s abilities, improve your equipment and fast travel to other base camps that you’ve visited on the island

    – Early on you’ll only have a few options to upgrade Lara, such as giving her the ability to carry additional arrows for her bow or increasing the speed that she’s able to shoot the arrows. As you continue the system will open up and allow you to shape her abilities to your playstyle.

    – The context-sensitive actions are one-off sequences. For example, the scene with Lara stabbing the wolf is only going to happen once in the game. They say that if you do it right the first time it’ll have an impact.

    – “There is linearity to the story – you have to go from point A to point B – but there’s junctions in between where we want the player to feel like they’re real explorers.” These are described as non-linear hub spaces that you can come back to at different times of day.

Lara Croft. Tomb Raider is scheduled to be release on 5 March 2013 for PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PS3.
