• Leaked AT&T Documents Hint at LTE 4G iPad

    LulzSec, the 6-man hacking group ended their 50 days reign of “hackery” but after revealing/embarrassing/corrupting/exposing numerous corporations/governments/servers, the guys came with one last act of mischief.

    They once again published confidential data recovered from their latest attack. One prominent folder is titled “AT&T.” other dumped files were leaked from AOL, Disney, Universal, EMI and the FBI.

    Digging through the data, the guys over at iFans have come across some interesting information. The internal AT&T documents reveal that the carrier is planning to roll out their new LTE network in the first week of July, and more ineterstingly hinting at what seems to be an LTE-capable iPad.

    Pre-LTE scenarios. Testing will include iPad new activations HLS using the new rate plan, as well as a regression on netbooks and dongles. During validation E2E execution should ensure all functionality new and current is still functioning properly by validating account set up, provision, usage and notifications.

    Apple’s 3rd iteration of their popular tablet line is expected to be a major upgrade, with speculation suggesting everything from a Retina display to LTE capabilities.

    LulzSec, short for Lulz Security, the hacker group behind hacking the CIA, U.S. Senate, Nintendo, Sony and others. They took down the CIA’s website, hacked Sony’s servers, released sensitive documents from the Arizona state government and attacked the U.S. Senate’s website. While a suspected member of LulzSec was recently apprehended, the group claims he was not its leader.

    The team claim that they intended to only operate for 50 days as an attempt to revive the AntiSec movement, which is opposed to the computer security industry.

  • iPhone 5 in September With A5 Chip, 8MP Camera. iPad 3 to Get Higher Resolution Display

    A new report by Bloomberg has backed up rumors from the past few months and says that Apple’s upcoming fifth-generation iPhone will make its debut in September and will boast a stronger chip for processing data and a more advanced camera and will closely resmeble the current iPhone 4 unlike many reports that hinted about a teardrop shaped build, The device will include the A5 processor, the more powerful chip that Apple added to the iPad 2 earlier this year, along with an 8-megapixel camera, up from the 5-megapixel model in the iPhone 4.

    Apple is also said to be testing a new version of the iPad that has a higher resolution screen, similar to the one now used in the iPhone 4. The screen resolution on Apple’s new iPad would be about one-third higher than that of the iPad 2 and will sport a more responsive touchscreen.

    The new iPhone will also come preloaded with iOS 5, which features Notification Center, new camera features, Twitter integration, iCloud support, an updated mail application, a location-based reminders application, iMessages, and much more. iOS 5 previewed earlier in WWDC and will be a unified OS for all Apple mobile devices:

    The new phone will run the iOS 5 operating system Apple previewed at a developer’s conference earlier this month. Codenamed “Telluride,” it will feature already-announced features such as improved messaging and photo-sharing, one person said. It’s also designed to run on all of Apple’s mobile devices, this person said. Until late last year, iPads, iPhones and iPod touches used slightly different versions of iOS.

    And the idea of a cheaper iPhone version seems to be valid after all:

    Apple is also working to finish a cheaper version of the iPhone aimed at attracting customers in developing countries, the people said. This device would use chips and displays of similar quality to today’s iPhone 4, the people said. Apple’s work on a smaller, lower-priced version of the device was discussed by people familiar with the matter in February.

    The next generation iPhone is expected to pack a new cellular chip from the Qualcomm that can support both GSM and CDMA networks.

  • Apple’s iOS 5 Tops Windows Phone ‘Mango’ in HTML5 Performance

    Microsoft recently launched a mobile IE9 testing site that allows web developers to test the HTML5 abilities of Windows Phone Mango

    Last month the software giant Microsoft demoed the Mango update with 500 new features, including a mobile version of Internet Explorer 9. In a preview video, Microsoft vice president Joe Belfiore ran a test between phones running Windows Phone 7, Android, BlackBerry OS and iOS and declared Windows Phone the winner. Microsoft’s device rendered HTML5 content at 24 frames per second, compared to 2 frames per second on the iPhone 4 and 11 FPS on the Android Nexus S device.

    But what about an iPhone 4 running the beta release of iOS 5? As noted by winrumors, it has reached 31 frames per second on the test. However, a screenshot demonstrating the test results still lists the iOS 4.3 version of Mobile Safari.

    Windows Phone 7 and iOS 5 are both scheduled for a fall release, though Microsoft and Apple have yet to set specific release dates.

    Apple unveiled iOS 5 earlier this month at the WWDC with over 200 new user features and 1500 APIs.

    Meanwhile, Microsoft has teamed up with Nokia, reportedly paying billions to Nokia in exchange for the company’s commitment to Windows Phone 7. In February, Nokia announced plans to ditch its Symbian mobile operating system and begin making smartphones running Windows Phone. Nokia confirmed last month that the first of its devices to run Windows Phone 7 will feature the Mango update.

    Research group IDC predicts the Microsoft and Nokia partnership will help boost Windows Phone market share from 3.8 percent in 2011 to 20.3 percent in 2015, while Apple’s share of the worldwide smartphone market is expected to dip from 18.2 percent to 16.9 percent during the same period.
