Apple All But Confirms 7.85-inch iPad Mini Rumor

Reports from The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and New York Times claim inside knowledge of Apple’s plan to release a smaller, less-expensive iPad model for release later this year. The new iPad, iPad mini, will boast a 7.85-inch form factor and cost “significantly less than the latest $499 iPad”.

The company is developing a new tablet with a 7.85-inch screen that is likely to sell for significantly less than the latest $499 iPad, with its 9.7-inch display, according to several people with knowledge of the project who declined to be named discussing confidential plans. The product is expected to be announced this year.

This comes as no surprise after a series of purported iPad mini engineering samples that were leaked and included side-by-side comparisons with the current third-generation iPad.

iPad mini is expected to compete against Google‘s recently-announced $199 Nexus 7 Android tablet as well as Amazon Kindle Fire and the upcoming Windows Surface featuring Windows RT.

To have a look at what you expect from the new iPad mini, which actually close to 8-inch than 7-inch diagonal, here is a good represtation from @trojankitten

Microsoft to Launch its Own iPad-killer Tablet

Microsoft sent out invitations for a major announcement in Los Angeles next Monday, rumors about just what the company will be announcing are starting to fly, beginning with TheWrap reporting that the company would be announcing a Microsoft-manufactured tablet, AllThingsD followed claiming that Microsoft wanted to take on the iPad directly.

Sources say that Microsoft concluded that it needs its own tablet, with the company designing both the hardware and software in an effort to better compete against Apple’s strengths. Microsoft’s tablets may include machines running ARM-based processors as well as models running on traditional PC processors, sources said.

Following the success of own device Xbox, Microsoft could be actually working on manufactured by Microsoft itself, running on Windows RT (a version of Windows 8) tablet intended to rival Apple’s iPad.

Other sources claim that Microsoft is actually aiming at Amazon not Apple, by bringing a 7-inch tablet and not to mention that Microsoft had signed a deal with Barnes & Noble to invest in nook business. A Nokia-made, Microsoft-branded 7-inch tablet is also a possibility

The timing is interesting, as it comes just before Google I/O, where Google is expected to announce a new 7-inch tablet running Android.

Alleged Next-generation iPhone 5 Metal Back Hands-on Video

last month, we have showed some photos of black and white next-generation iPhone backs. The guys at eTradeSupply have got their hands on one of these back shells.

This does again affirms the brand new, taller and thinner design, packed with smaller dock connecter, new speaker and mic. grills, a relocated headphone jack and a unibody back plate attached to the antenna band. Watch the demo video below:

According the demo video, the sim card tray seems smaller, although this does not mean a smaller nano sim card will make its way into the new iPhone as well, anyway, the new iPhone is expected to launch this fall.
