• Another iPhone Prototype Lost In A Bar

    As reported  by CNET, it appears Apple may have lost another unreleased iPhone model in a bar, this time at the Cava22 in San Francisco. The errant iPhone, which went missing in San Francisco’s Mission district in late July, sparked a scramble by Apple security to recover the device over the next few days, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

    You may recall last year’s loss of an iPhone 4 prototype, which was lost by an Apple employee and sold to Gizmodo. This year’s lost phone seems to have taken a more mundane path: it was taken from a Mexican restaurant and bar and may have been sold on Craigslist for $200. Still unclear are details about the device, what version of the iOS operating system it was running, and what it looks like.

    Apple electronically traced the phone to a two-floor, single-family home in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, according to the source.

    When San Francisco police and Apple’s investigators visited the house, they spoke with a man in his twenties who acknowledged being at Cava 22 on the night the device went missing. But he denied knowing anything about the phone. The man gave police permission to search the house, and they found nothing, the source said.

    iPhone 5 is expected to launch this September / early October.

  • Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO from Apple, Becomes Chairman. Tim Cook Becomes CEO

    After founding Apple 35 years ago in his garage in Silicon Valley, and after being pushed out, Jobs was brought back in in 1997 and in the 14 years since his return, Apple has turned into the most valuable company in the world.

    After successions of medical leaves, Steve Jobs will quit as CEO and becomes Chairman. As Chairman, Jobs will “continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration,” said Apple Board member Art Levinson.  Tim Cook is the new CEO as per the Apple succession plan.

    The Resignation letter:

    To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

    I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

    I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

    As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

    I believe Apple”s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

    I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

    CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Apple’s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.

    “The Board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO,” added Levinson. “Tim’s 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does.”

    Jobs submitted his resignation to the Board today and strongly recommended that the Board implement its succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO.

    As COO, Cook was previously responsible for all of the company’s worldwide sales and operations, including end-to-end management of Apple’s supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in all markets and countries. He also headed Apple’s Macintosh division and played a key role in the continued development of strategic reseller and supplier relationships, ensuring flexibility in response to an increasingly demanding marketplace.

Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store.   • Apple Releases iOS 5 Beta 6, iTunes 10.5 beta 6, Xcode 4.2 to Developers

    Apple has just released iOS 5 beta 6 for developers, build number 9A5302b. Apple has also released a new iTunes 10.5 beta 6, Xcode 4.2 Developer Preview, Apple TV software and the second beta of iWork for iOS with iCloud. iOS 5 is expected to ship with the next iPhone generation which is supposed to come out in early October.

    iOS 5 beta 6 can also be installed over-the-air on devices running iOS 5 beta 4 or later.  144 MB worth of size.
