  • Disney re-elects Steve Jobs to its Board

March 24, 2011 // Gradly // Apple, blog, News, Rants & Raves, Steve Jobs Tags: blog, Disney, Steve Jobs No Responses

Bloomberg reports that Disney shareholders re-elected Steve Jobs to their board.

The advisory group Glass Lewis & Co. recommended investors withhold support for Jobs, citing his absence from meetings. Institutional Shareholder Services, Inc., stopping short of urging rejection, said Jobs’s attendance and “recent leave of absence from his primary employer, raises questions about his ability to fulfill his responsibilities as a director.”

Disney said, “The Walt Disney Company considers itself fortunate to have Steve Jobs as a member of its board of directors.”

    Congrats. Mr. Jobs

  • Steve Jobs Was The First Choice For Google’s CEO

March 19, 2011 // Gradly // Apple, blog, google, News, Steve Jobs Tags: Apple, blog, Google, Steve Jobs No Responses

Back in 2000, when Google was just getting started, its venture capital backers insisted the fledling company find an experieced CEO to provide ‘adult supervision.’

Venture capitalist John Doerr arranged for Google’s young co-founders to meet with half-a-dozen Silicon Valley CEOs in an attempt to get the process started. Larry Page and Sergey Brin met with Intel’s Andy Grove, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and several others.

At the end of the tour, they were ready to hire a CEO but there was a problem, according to Wired:

… they would only consider one person: Steve Jobs.

Jobs was busy running Apple, of course, which was just about to introduce the first iPod, the product that would transform the company. Doerr persuaded them to widen their net and introduced them to Eric Schmidt, then CEO of Novell. Schmidt became Google’s CEO in 2001.

The nugget about Steve Jobs is from the latest Wired magazine, in a story about Larry Page retaking the reins as Google’s CEO. It is not yet online.

  • Why Did Apple Choose Next Thursday To Launch MacBooks?

February 20, 2011 // Gradly // Apple, blog, News, Rumors, Steve Jobs Tags: Apple, blog, LequidMetal, Liquid Metal, Mac, MacBok, rumors, Steve Jobs No Responses

It looks like Apple’s all set to launch new MacBooks next week, but the launch day is — a Thursday?

What’s up with that? Apple’s big product launches are almost always on Tuesdays. (It allows reporters on the East Coast to fly into California on a workday instead of the weekend).

So why would Apple launch new MacBooks on Thursday February 24?

Perhaps because it’s Steve Jobs’ 56th birthday! Steve’s birthday is Thursday February 24.

Last year, Apple sold its 10 billionth song on Jobs’ 55th birthday.

    Happy birthday Steve 🙂
