  • iPhone 4 Leaked Screenshot showing Multitasking Gestures

Well after the 4.3 Beta that previewed multitasking gestures on the iPad, there is now some supposed evidence that suggests that the iPhone is also being considered by Apple to have gestures thanks to an internal build that BGR claims to have gotten some screenshots of. Here waht they had to say:

One of our Apple sources has just sent us over a couple screen shots from what we’re told is an internal test model of the iPhone 4. The shots are interesting because it looks like Apple is testing multitouch gestures on the iPhone in addition to the iPad. While this isn’t shocking, what’s interesting is that internally, the same amount of fingers applies to gestures on both devices. What we mean by this, is that you have to use four finger gestures on the iPhone just like the iPad — kind of difficult such a comparatively tiny screen. It might be easier with say… a multitouch gesture area below the screen, sort of where the home button is? Oh, wait. We imagine things will be refined as testing progresses, but we have to ask in all seriousness — can you handle four fingers?

  • iPad 2.0 boasts 2,048 X 1,536 Resolution Display

In case you’re still wondering if the iPad 2.0 will have a higher-res screen then here’s the latest claims, this time emanating from our old pals at Digitimes.

There a report this morning tells us that “sources” from inside AAPL’s component supply chain are saying the next-gen iPad will host a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536. Here is what they had to say:

As Apple is set to start mass producing its next-generation iPad 2 at the end of February, and sources from upstream component makers pointed out that Apple is increasing iPad 2’s resolution to 2048 by 1536 and the new strategy is expected to widen the company’s technology gap with its competitors.

Apple has also recently started adjusting its iBooks 1.1 application with some designs for bookmark icons to allow it to support the larger resolution, noted the sources adding that the larger resolution should provide the company’s App developers more convenience, while all future applications will be able to run under any of Apple’s machines including the 27-inch iMac.

In 2011, Apple’s iPad series should be able to ship more than 40 million units, the sources estimated. Apple is estimated to have ordered 1.6-1.8 million iPads in January with the order volumes for February expected to drop. iPad 2’s initial shipments are expected to be 400,000-600,000 units.

  • George Lucas really believes the World will End in 2012!

If you’re a celebrity who owns a fantastical ranch full of spaceship paraphernalia, chances are you have a passing relationship with reality, anyway. Unfortunately, it turns out George Lucas and reality are barely even acquaintances, as Seth Rogen just revealed that Mr. Lucas allegedly holds a sincere belief in Mayan apocalypse lore. Funnier yet: Steven Spielberg is pretty annoyed about it.

In a new Toronto Sun article, Rogen explains that a meeting with Lucas and Spielberg soured once the subject turned to Mayan calendar drama.

“George Lucas sits down and seriously proceeds to talk for around 25 minutes about how he thinks the world is gonna end in the year 2012, like, for real. He thinks it.

“He’s going on about the tectonic plates and all the time Spielberg is, like, rolling his eyes, like, ‘My nerdy friend won’t shut up, I’m sorry…’

“I first thought he (Lucas) was joking… and then I totally realized he was serious and then I started thinking, ‘If you’re George Lucas and you actually think the world is gonna end in a year, there’s no way you haven’t built a spaceship for yourself… So I asked him… ‘Can I have a seat on it?’

“He claimed he didn’t have a spaceship, but there’s no doubt there’s a Millennium Falcon in a garage somewhere with a pilot just waiting to go… It’s gonna be him and Steven Spielberg and I’ll be blown up like the rest of us.”

Jar-jarring stuff. But, not so surprising, right? I’m sure he sleeps in a Brian Wilson sandbox full of moon rocks, too. Authenticity is important in a sci-fi auteur!
